[Professional] Filter element type

27/05/2025

In order to drink clean water, we use filtering equipment to filter out impurities and drink clean water; in the surface treatment industry, in order to keep the liquid clean and further extend its life, we also use filters to remove impurities and dirt in the solution. But there are so many types of filters, how do we choose? Here we briefly introduce the common types of filters.

Filter Type

Integrated filter

This type of filter is the most commonly used type in the industry. It is made of polypropylene and is made in one piece. It has the characteristics of sparse outside and dense inside, high efficiency and long life, and is widely used in front-end filtration of electroplating, PCB, pure water and RO reverse osmosis.

Wrap-around filter

The wound filter element uses polypropylene PP fiber, and its design is still wound in a sparse inside and dense outside manner. The filtration accuracy is determined by the thickness of the wire and the density of the winding. The thinner and tighter the wire is, the smaller the pores are and the higher the accuracy is. Therefore, the denser the wire structure is, the higher the filtration accuracy is.

Activated carbon filter

As the name suggests, the main material of this filter is activated carbon. When liquid flows through activated carbon, it can absorb odors, tastes, organic chemicals and other substances in the filtrate. However, care must be taken when using this filter element. If the plating solution is still in use, it must not be used to prevent the solution components from being adsorbed by the activated carbon, which would significantly reduce the life of the solution.

Folding filter

It is composed of spray-melt ultra-fine PP fiber filter cloth with different fiber precisions, which is formed in PP inner and outer sleeves by folding. Its filtration area is more than 10 times that of deep filter elements. It has the characteristics of low pressure difference, large flow rate, high impurity capacity and long service life. It is mostly used for clarifying filtration of liquids or front-end filtration of membrane filter elements.

Stainless steel filter

This filter element uses stainless steel fiber as raw material. After non-woven laying and stacking of metal fibers, it is made into a porous deep filter material through high-temperature vacuum sintering. Its most prominent feature is its high porosity. The diameter of its metal fibers is consistent, so the metal fiber felt can provide good air permeability while ensuring precise filtration accuracy.

Filter bags

This filter bag is made by ultrasonic welding, which can effectively achieve pinhole-free and deep filtration effects, and can effectively intercept solid particles for different types of liquids; it is often used for additional suction filtration inside or outside the tank. When there is no filtering equipment, the filter bag is a good choice.

completion

Choosing a suitable filter requires a good understanding of your own needs, such as: purpose, filtered material, operating temperature and filtration equipment information; among these, filtration equipment is the most often neglected link. When an unsuitable filter is used on the equipment, it will not only fail to achieve the desired effect, but is also likely to cause damage to the equipment. Therefore, ask the manufacturer more details before purchasing so that your filter can achieve twice the result with half the effort.
